This is an English translation of Devi Bhagavata by Swami Vijnanananda. Devi Bhagavata Purana (देवी भागवतपुराण) is one of the most important work in Shaktism, the veneration in Hinduism of the divine feminine, next to Devi Mahatmya.
This Purana describes the Devi, the Goddess, as the substratum of the universe and as identical with Brahman, the Supreme Being. As the divine mother, she reveals her virat rupa (universal form) (Book 7, Chapter 33) and describes the proper ways for
worshipping her: especially the practice of Yoga, Meditation (Book 7, Chapter 35), and Ritual (Book 7, Chapter 39). The Devi-Bhagavata Purana also deals with topics like spiritual knowledge, social and personal ethics, and holy places.

DeleteSir ty so much for this wonderful effort of your's. But can you pls also upload the first chapter ASAP so it makes more sense and avoid confusion in future. Also in the above mentioned comment there's a link for comlete download is it actually full? And what does ocr mean?
ReplyDeleteThe suffix OCR means that the PDF is not made of scanned images of the printed book. It is PDF coantaining editable, searchable text. Third link points to complete English translation of Devi Bhagavata (of all 3 volumes of the printed book).
Deleteif we try third link for part 1,it says the file is no longer available.
DeletePlease let me know about the link on Srimad Devi Bagavatham in malayalam PDF format.ramehgefab@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThis translation doesn't have the first part, Devi Bhagwat Mahatmya.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. The translator didn't include Mahatmya. You may note that Bhagavata Mahatmya is not a part of Bhagavata Purana. It is from Skandha Purana.
DeleteWhere can I find translation of Devi bhagwat mahatmyam?
DeleteHindi translation of Devi Bhagavata Mahatmya is available in the following edition of Devi Bhagavata with Hindi tika. But, the chapters are not in order in this scan. The Mahatmya occurs around page 600.

Devi Bhagavata Mahatmya is said to be part of Manasa Khanda of Skanda Purana (i.e. 5 chapters at the end of Nagara Khanda of Skanda Purana). But, these chapters are not included in the English translation of Skanda Purana published by Motilal Banarsidas. I have not seen any English translation of Devi Bhagavata Mahatmya so far.
